Butterflies Beauties of Cape Jourimain

August 22nd to August 26th
Cape Jourimain Butterfly Workshop (Seulement en anglais) The Maritimes Butterfly Atlas is the first comprehensive butterfly survey of the Maritime Provinces. Launched in 2010, this five-year initiative will use the coordinated efforts of amateur naturalists to map the current distributions of our butterfly species. Anyone with an interest in butterflies, regardless of skill-level, is welcome to participate. If you aren’t a seasoned butterfly enthusiast you will be by the end of the survey! Join John of the Maritimes Butterfly Atlas for a day of butterfly atlasing at Cape Jourimain Nature Centre on August 22. John will present a brief overview of the atlas project, followed by a survey of various habitats. You will learn the basics about New Brunswick's butterflies, and how to participate in the Atlas. If you have atlas equipment from previous presentations or workshops bring it along. Kits will be available to anyone else who would like to participate (participation is free, though a donation of $20 for each kit is encouraged). This free workshop starts at 10:00 AM in the interpretation building and will end at approximately 2:00 PM. Bring a lunch and appropriate clothing for a day outside. In the event of bad weather, the event will be an hour-long indoor presentation that goes into more depth on Maritime Butterflies. To register please call 538-2220.
